The Difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org

When faced with a website redesign, most of our clients wonder about the differences between WordPress and Drupal. But what about the distinctions between WordPress.com and WordPress.org? Last week, WDG’s senior and lead developer Mike Garrett spoke with Business News Daily about helping clients choose between a WordPress.com-hosted site and a customized WordPress.org content management system (CMS) for their individual projects. Here’s a quick excerpt from the article:

In 2014, more than 22 percent of all websites run on the CMS called WordPress, making it one of the Internet’s most significant technologies. WordPress’ ubiquity results from its ease of use as well as the large network of designers and developers who create free or low-cost plugins and themes to expand the system’s functionality.

While both platforms offer basic functionality that is necessary for successful brand experiences, they also have significant differences that should be considered when undertaking a redesign process.
