So, What are Illustrations?

Basically, illustrations are depictions of an artist’s imagination. But why, precisely, are illustrations central to the the wonderful world of web design? What’s the point of spending those hours crafting a thoughtful visual?

When it comes down to it, illustrations—and other media, in general—are essential for conveying messages on the web. Say you were given the choice between reading a text-version of instructions or a visual version of instructions. Which one would you rather read?

Online, this distinction couldn’t be more relevant. The way users skim articles online favors content that is short, condensed, and visual. (Part of this is because images last longer in our brains!) Want your users to read what you have to say? Want them to have a better sense of your brand?

Use illustrations!

Today’s Lesson…

In this blog, I thought I’d do something a little different.

While I could wax poetic about illustrations all day, showing you would be more effective in demonstrating how illustrations provide users clear, efficient ways of understanding what you want them to know. Plus, it’s way more fun to watch me make something—as opposed to having to read my not-as-cool explanation, right?

So, without further ado, let’s get to the video!
